Dear Mr. Kanarek,
I want to thank you for the outstanding training we received by you and your colleagues in August 2009. The two days of intensive training covered Israeli Tactical Knife fighting, empty hand defense against an opponent with a knife, opponent termination with and without a knife, and knife fighting techniques while fighting waist deep in water. It was fantastic!
The student population were my US Marine instructors to include myself. Most of my instructors have combat experience fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan and are no strangers to the rigors of physical training. I can tell you that the training was some of the most intense physical training I’ve done in years. Also, as an instructor myself I was able to fully appreciate the professionalism that Mike showed during the conduct of the training. Everything was explained in detail and the practical application exercises built the muscle memory. This training surpassed all expectations.
My Marines now have the confidence that they can survive and destroy the enemy with a knife if need be during their future combat tours. I cannot overstate the unique nature of the training and how powerful this has been as a combat multiplier for myself and my instructors.
Sincerely,
Kelsey (Kelly) R. Thompson

Dear Mr. Kanarek
From November 10 to November 14, 2008, members of the Tactical Training Unit of the New York City Police Department attended the F.I.G.H.T. Instructor Certification Course.
The content of the course was comprised of techniques that balanced simplicity and efficacy. Wheter instruction centered on personal weapons and street attacks, ground fighting and defense, knife attacks or gun disarming, the mechanics of each technique were dissected, honed and intergrated within the system as a whole. Just as importantly, the material was informed and driven by the dynamics of the “Street”. As such, its value was inestimable.
The advantage of the course did not end with the material. The methodology employed in conveying that material was designed to maximize retention and mastery. Broad topics were broken down and sequenced logically into digestible portions over a course of days rather than crammed into students all at once (e.g. ground techniques were broken down and taught each day, building from simple to complex, rather than working all ground techniques one day, all gun disarming the next, etc). The result was, without question, greater understanding. The Tactical Training Unit will be incorporating this methodology onto its own courses.
Material and methodology constitute the sinews and bones of training. To infuse those sinews and bones with a pulse takes the skill of an expert instructor. Mike Kanarek is a maelstrom of instructional intensity. Each day of training under his tutelage brought a standing ovation. He is that good.
In the coming months, the Tactical Training Unit will be revising its curriculum to incorporate many of the techniques taught during F.I.G.H.T. into the courses it offers to in-service personnel. As a representative of the largest municipal police agency in the world, I can say, without qualification: F.I.G.H.T. works.
Sincerly

Dear Mr. Kanarek,
I wanted to personally thank you for the superior training you provided to my Soldiers and Force Recon Marines during the recent Military Instructor Associate (MIA) certification held at Dobbins Air Base, Georgia , on 24-27 April 2008. This was one of the most intense and Focused training periods these soldiers have ever experienced. Most of the soldiers participating in this training have experienced combat and heard shots fired in danger against them. However, they could not quite compare this training to anything they have ever experienced or seen in their military careers. This was truly one of the most physically and mentally demanding training experience I personally have conducted in 26 years of military service.
The four days of intensive training covered Combative and Combat Fitness, Ground Survival , Israeli Tactical Knife Fighting, Empty Hand Defenses against Handgun, Long-gun and Knife as well as Stick Attacks and Defenses. The way each training session was broken down and implemented showed all in attendance the extreme amount of knowledge , experience, technical expertise and commitment you have as a warrior and professional. This training surpassed all expectations and clearly shows why haganah is truly “the top of the food chain”.
Your training has given my Soldiers the confidence that they will not only survive a hostile encounter with the enemy, but also dominate , destroy, and overcome him with superior technique and skill. You have become a combat multiplier for these Soldiers as they prepare for thier wartime and counter drug missions. Thank you for sharing your passion with these men and developing their abilities as elite warriors for this nation.
Sincerly,
Robert B. Gaston

Dear Mr. Kanarek:
I greatly appreciate the specialized combat training you provided members of the Coast Guard Deployable Special Forces community from 13-24 August 2007. As the leading instructor for the Haganah fighting system you conducted exceptional Hand-to-Hand Combat and Anti-Terrorism Tactics instruction to members on the front line of the Coast Guard Counter Narco-Terrorism Mission.
You conducted more than 80 hours of intensive training, which included such techniques as Hand-to Hand combat, ground survival, long gun and hand-gun disarms, edged weapon defense and tactical knife fighting. Your superior training techniques, exceptional knowledge and experience all exceeded my expectations. Your professional instructing and meticulous time management skills maximized the quality and intensity of the training. In addition, you implemented valuable physical fitness training which we now use for all members of our unit.
Your effort clearly improved our unit’s fitness, confidence and situational awareness thereby improving our overall mission capabilities and helped us create more effective Federal Law Enforcement Officers. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to training TACLET South!
Sincerly
J.J. Daly
Commander, U.S. Coast Guard Taclet South
